It’s been a strange old year so far and it’s not been easy on independent shops like us at all. Now Christmas is upon us, more restrictions are being imposed and our festive stock is arriving. It’s going to be a very strange Christmas indeed. With footfall down on the high street and minimal numbers allowed in our shops, I wonder how we will showcase the Christmas stock... will customers even turn up this year or will the big online stores get the cut?
This is where you come in. We are asking our lovely customers and local communities to consider your local high street when shopping this year just as much, or if not more than last year. Your high street needs you! We need you.
This is one of, if not the best time of year for small independent shops. Our livelihoods rely on your support. We love what we do so much that we put our all into it in the hope that you love it too.
So, as the Christmas shopping starts and you find yourself wondering what to buy, please, please, please look on your high street first. Can’t get out but know what you’d like? Call the shops and ask for assistance. Independent shop owners are super friendly and go the extra mile for customers as much as possible because they need you, they need your support. Without customers there is no high street and with that being said, let’s hope that one day we don’t find ourselves wondering “whatever happened to that shop? I loved it in there”.
Please, shop local this Christmas.
Visit our Christmas Hightlights page for gift inspiration and our Christmas shop is open to order online for nationwide delivery or click and collect.
I completely agree with your sentiment here, the lockdown really pressured our local businesses and those of us who survived only to find ourselves in an even more daunting scenario with the energy crisis need to look out for each other. Running a small business in phone repairs myself ( www.irepairshull.co.uk ) i'd like to extend a 'local to local' offer of 10% off any phone repair you or your staff may need, just quote 'The Pickled Fig' when booking online. Wishing you all the best in your business this year, Bob.
