Our Story
Husband and wife duo, Robert & Larissa Harrison have realised a lifelong dream of having their own deli by opening The Pickled Fig in October 2018.
Robert, Yorkshire born and bred and a 2nd generation baker, was trained by his father at their two bakeries when he was younger. When the big supermarkets put an end to the humble bakery Robert ventured off into IT.
Larissa, grew up in Wales and has always had a love of food, especially cheese. She also found herself in IT, while working with food on the side. She founded a supper club, Calon y Gegin (The heart of the Kitchen), with her friend Delyth, dabbled in some home private dining and has loved being in the kitchen since she was a child.

A Chance Meeting
The two met at York in 2012 and shortly after, Larissa moved to Yorkshire. The Pickled Fig became a reality in 2018 after studying several courses at The Guild of Fine Foood, travelling the country meeting suppliers and eventually finding the right premises - 24-26 Prestongate, Hessle.
Originally the shop was to be called Hessle Larder but since pickled figs are amazing with cheese and wanting to stand out for their cheese selections and knowledge, the couple settled on "The Pickled Fig" - a catchier, hard to forget name - don't you agree?

The Pickled Fig
The Pickled Fig is a delicatessen and fine food store with a small artisan bakery, building a formidable reputation for its excellent selections of cheeses, charcuterie, freshly baked artisan breads, cakes, pastries, gourmet sandwiches, and the various fine foods on the shelves. Stocking products from as near as Yorkshire to as far away as South America. Cheese selections rarely fall below 50 to choose from and the wines you just wouldn't get in the supermarket.

Why not stop in today. We have bar style seating in the windows to watch the world go by, while enjoying a coffee (or tea) with something yummy to eat! Our toasted focaccia are proving a hit! Don't live locally? No problem, you can now order online for Nationwide delivery.
